Three Islands

Friday, September 19, 2011

Perfect day. Took the 3-island tour--walked all the way around one island that had a few fishing boats docked and one tin-walled house on stilts. Stopped by first island to pick up goggles and returned to the same island after snorkeling to return goggles. Don enjoyed some "swimming" along the sandy shore while I walked the shoreline and dour driver ate lunch. The island for snorkeling we didn't dock at the shoreline but dropped anchor out a couple hundred feet. Snorkeling was fun, but we didn't stay out too long because we felt little stings, which Ben deduced came from the seaweed. My favorite fish to view while snorkeling were the yellow, black, and white striped ones. Also, we saw sea urchins with long, spiky tentacles. AND, a fish jumped into our boat as we were heading out to the first island. :)

Avocados

. . . and we thought the avocado we bought at the market was huge.

Our Bungalow at Kep

This is a beautiful bungalow--swimming pool, view of the Gulf of Thailand, lovely, relaxing.

It's 5 a.m. and I hear a rooster crowing. Earlier, I heard a gecko "barking," and the lush vegetation is humming with birds and other animal life.

Before the bus ride to Kep, we had a tuk-tuk ride to Sen Sok, one of the poorest areas that we visited. The people are so kind and loving and their circumstances are so humble.

Arrived at our bungalow by the pool.

Rode a bus to Kep, which is on the Gulf of Thailand.

To Market to Market

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Ended the day with a visit to a Cambodian market and bought two huge avocados, some jack fruit, and a delicious, carved, quartered pineapple (so yummy!).

Afterwards, we went to the church so B and B could play basketball, but the game was rained out, since it's an outdoors court. We did enjoy going inside the church, however, and visiting with a few people. One gal who Ben taught two years ago is getting baptized this Sunday. Such a lovely, lovely spirit we felt visiting there.
