Mid-Trip Laundry Break

Saturday, April 20, 2011

P-Day. Relax, do laundry, buy bus tickets for tomorrow, set up fishing trip, Skype or gmail chat with Tori. Don had the seafood barbecue at our hotel (see previous pictures). I had the best one-hour foot massage ever (my first in my life--so, so nice), we saw a Wat up on a hill, saw the seaport, visited a local market.

Our Turn

6:30 a.m. until noon: Fishing Trip. The rest of the day was a bus ride back to Phnom Penh to pick up the two tailer-made, custom-made suits for Don and Ben. The tailers took about 20 measurements--zip, zip, zip--so accurate and efficent. Wow! And those suits fit perfectly. Amazing.

Next, another long bus ride to Siem Reap. I hope we can stop by IPC bookstore first so that I can find a good book to read on the trip. We did enjoy one slap-stick movie on the bus--some Chinese/Japanese spool with a new hilarious situation every few minutes. It was fun to observe all the Cambodians laughing so hard throughout the movie.

Kep Pepper Plantation

Friday, August 19, 2011

After a late lunch, we had a tuk-tuk ride about 7 kilometers through the countryside to a pepper farm . . . so interesting. We bought 5 kilos of red peppercorns, 5 kilos of white peppercorns, and 5 kilos of black peppercorns. All peppercorns are grown on the same plants; they're just harvested at different times. The white pepper is made from red peppercorns that have been dried for three days, then boiled, then peeled, and then dried again.

A Walk in the Jungle

Friday, August 19, 2011

We're in Sihanoukville tonight--Don, Ben, and Brittan went on a hike in the national park jungle behind our bungalow this morning (check out the mud on those shoes!). I opted to hit the Internet cafe to catch up on emails and reading. Next, we took a tax (car ride) here (to Sihanoukville) . . . relaxed, had a one-hour massage (that would be me, the Mom, speaking), watched the sunset . . . awww, relaxing.

Snorkeling

Three Islands

Friday, September 19, 2011

Perfect day. Took the 3-island tour--walked all the way around one island that had a few fishing boats docked and one tin-walled house on stilts. Stopped by first island to pick up goggles and returned to the same island after snorkeling to return goggles. Don enjoyed some "swimming" along the sandy shore while I walked the shoreline and dour driver ate lunch. The island for snorkeling we didn't dock at the shoreline but dropped anchor out a couple hundred feet. Snorkeling was fun, but we didn't stay out too long because we felt little stings, which Ben deduced came from the seaweed. My favorite fish to view while snorkeling were the yellow, black, and white striped ones. Also, we saw sea urchins with long, spiky tentacles. AND, a fish jumped into our boat as we were heading out to the first island. :)
